How to Win a Rake Race
The newest and greatest challenge these days in the online poker world is the art of racing. Not racing as in a coin flip, rather Rake racing, or rake races. In the brick & mortar world casino hosts would shower you with gifts for mammoth playing times, earning them serious coin. You would be treated like a king or queen. In the online world, do you even get a thank you? Well those days are gone with the introduction of rake races.
Like a tournament there are several strategies that enable you to better your chance of winning a rake race. Yes free money is fine by just cashing, but the big money is at the top. Here are some strategies that will help get you to the top and win a rake race.
1) Intimidate Your Opponents
Start racing on day 1 and build yourself a lead. Its not like a real race where you have to conserve your energy for the end, your sitting on a comfy chair in the conforts of your own home. By building a large lead, you'll make your opponents not bother. They'll see you as so far ahead and maybe even use your play as a straight calculation of what your final score will be. They know nothing about you, they have no idea if you will keep that pace or not.
2) Multi-Tabling
All cash races, raked hand races, rake races, point races, they all rely on hands played. If you don't or can't multi-table, don't even bother participating as everybody else will be. Find out what the max number of tables you can open up with that specific site is, and if you can do it sucessfully without too much damage on your play, do it!
3) Table Selection
If available, choose the looser and higher average pot tables. Most races will have a point value depending on how much rake is taken. If the max rake is taken pretty often, you'll be scoring max points just as often. If there are tables below your normal playing limits that meet these requirements, feel free to play those.
4) Watch Your Back
Always keep aware of where you sit on the leaderboard. Make sure you are keeping your lead and you can also calculate what kind of points you and your rivals are earning per day.
4) Have Fun
Don't turn into a zombie bot, poker is still a fun game an you should keep it that way. Eat well, get regular sleep, and make sure you take regular breaks. Ruinning your health is not worth it. Plus a sharper mind will keep continue making +EV decisions and keep your poker play profitable.
Hope these steps will help you win your next poker rake race. And remember to thank RakeRaceNews.com when you do.
